Your therapist working with your medical doctor or psychiatrist is the best option to decide if medication is recommended. The medical literature supports a combination of medication and therapy as the most effective strategy for treating mental health issues. Medication alone treats the symptoms of mental health disorders. Therapy is a better long-term solution as it addresses the cause of the distress. You can gain sustainable growth and wellbeing from a holistic approach that combines medication and psychotherapy.

The law protects the relationship between client and therapist. Information cannot be shared without your written consent except if:
- You are a danger to yourself or another person.
- You share that a minor or elderly person is being abused. In which case the therapist is required by law to notify the state child or adult protective services within 48 hours.
- The therapist is court ordered to share records.
Confidentiality is one of the most important factors in therapy in that it ensures that what you share with your therapist stays between you and your therapist. Nothing can be shared except for the three instances mentioned above. Successful therapy requires substantial trust as the therapist and client share highly sensitive information. Every therapist must provide the client with a written copy of their Informed Consent explaining client rights. At times you may want to release information, for example to your medical doctor or psychiatrist, in such cases you are still required by law to provide your therapist with a written request for release of information.
